Developed from CAPE’s experience of building projects with policy partners and from an identified need in the sector, this scoping template aims to guide the planning and iteration of co-production projects between universities and policy organisations. It is designed to be completed collaboratively by those in academic and policy environments and is accompanied by a downloadable word template so you can work through this alongside the PDF. The scoping template can be used if you’ve never done any academic policy engagement before or if it’s your 100th engagement project!

The template will walk you through:

• Thinking through the purpose of your project including the policy need
• Designing what the project will do
• Considering alignment with organisational strategies
• The practicalities of engagement projects including resourcing & best practices

We hope that the template will support universities and policy organisations to deliver academic policy engagement more strategically, build stronger and deeper relationships, and allow you to get the most out of engaging with one another.
